Beijing, China, December 18, 2014 – Leading provider of multimedia connectivity solutions and services Silicon Image Electronics (NASDAQ: SIMG) today launched a line of MHL® receivers specifically designed for the automotive market. This range of receivers connects smartphones to in-car infotainment systems via MHL technology and supports the industry's most popular video output formats – CSI-2, HDMI® and RGB. Both receiver products are AECQ-100 certified and support a wider temperature range.
Today, consumers are increasingly relying on smartphones in all aspects of their lives, including in-car entertainment and applications. With more than 650 million installed capacity worldwide, MHL, which has many of the world's most popular smartphones, has established itself as a de facto solution for mobile and display device connectivity. This means that automakers can be confident that the MHL system installed in their cars today will extend the market life of the car.
MHL technology supports ultra-high definition video transmission up to 4K resolution, providing up to 8 channels of transmission for digital audio while also charging mobile devices. The high performance and fast response of MHL technology make it an ideal connection technology for in-car connectivity and infotainment systems, allowing drivers to perform GPS navigation and music programs on their mobile phones. MHL has also improved the entertainment system in the rear seat of the car, connecting to the rear seat display via a mobile phone to play the latest movies and games. MHL solves the fundamental problem of connecting an ecosystem with two huge development cycle differences between smartphones and cars, and processes and plays all the video on the phone in an uncompressed form.
Dominique Bonte, vice president and business director of ABI Research, a market research organization, said: "Automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) face many challenges, not only to solve the most effective integration of smart phones into cars, but also to ensure that they are in the car. The iteration of mobile phone updates during the lifecycle does not affect this integration strategy. MHL technology is an ideal solution for in-car infotainment systems that can easily help consumers use applications and personal content on their mobile devices while driving, with At the same time, it can also charge its equipment through the car audio host and the rear seat display."

MHL technology's new receiver product line enables automakers to While providing in-vehicle applications, GPS services, music and video playback capabilities, it is also believed that uncompressed video solutions will evolve over the long term."
Since the launch of the first MHL-enabled device in 2011, MHL's ecosystem has continued to grow, with more than 6.5 trillion installed worldwide.
Silicon Image will participate in the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 6th to January 9th, 2015. During CES, Silicon Image will be exhibiting its HD connectivity solution to the invitees at booth #MP25877 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
